Llyn doctoral students to join Hopkins Marine Science team!
The Hopkins Corporation welcomes two new doctoral students to our family!
Aeron Gwyn (pictured left) who will be researching plant-specific effects of iron-toxicity in wetlands and Margarete Wake (pictured right) who will be researching the adaptation to high iron environments in Conger conger will both be operating out of our research facility in Gwaedirmorfa to study the unique ecological environment. HopCop’s own Doctor Meredith Belmont will be acting as the doctoral advisor for Wake while esteemed professor Doctor Vincent Rotworth will be advising Gwyn.
HopCop aims to keep funding community projects like this and sponsoring doctoral students for a brighter future.
The programme will increase Hopkins' ability to support long-term scientific investigation of marine and freshwater environments while providing new opportunities for collaboration with leading academic institutions.

The expanded Marine Science Division will provide funding and infrastructure for research programmes in marine biology, aquatic ecology, environmental monitoring and related scientific fields.
Expanding academic partnerships
A central component of the expansion will be the development of new partnerships between Hopkins researchers and universities throughout the region.
Existing partnerships will also receive additional support, allowing researchers to undertake longer-term studies and improve access to specialist equipment, laboratory facilities and field resources.
Hopkins Corporation currently supports research programmes at several academic institutions.
The company is committed to ensuring that researchers have access to the resources necessary to conduct meaningful scientific investigation.
Responsible environmental research
Hopkins maintains that effective environmental management depends upon reliable scientific information.
The Marine Science Division will therefore continue to prioritise research designed to improve understanding of aquatic ecosystems and assist governments, communities and industry in making informed environmental decisions.

Looking toward the future
Construction and development associated with the first phase of the expansion programme are expected to commence later this year.
Additional information regarding individual research programmes will be announced as projects receive final approval.
